OFFICERS’ REPORTS

Secretary’s Report

A motion to accept the March minutes was made by Kevin Issing and seconded by Bernie Burns.  Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report

Joyce Gladle circulated a Transaction Report for March 2008 prepared by Treasurer Pam Gratzer who was out of town.  The Report showed a balance of $7,033.04.  A motion was made by Bill Olmsted to accept the Treasurer’s Report, seconded by John Ford.  Motion carried.

The question of the $200 reserve on the boat sold at the Fall Workshop was addressed to Mike O’Brien and Ed Wightman of the FLBM.  It was concluded that the reserve was valid and WCCB should forward payment to FLBM.  Commodore Chuck Gladle then reiterated the decision that was made at the March Board meeting that WCCB would hold its Fall Workshop separate from AOMCI and FLBM.  This prompted a lengthy discussion on the advisability of this decision, producing the following comments:  John Frey feels the root of the problem is that WCCB people lost interest in the event; Bernie Burns likes the collaborative effort, did not think this would help and felt that the lack of volunteers was the root of the problem.  Chuck Gladle commented that AOMCI and FLBM will both be invited to attend the Workshop.

Vintage Wood

Dick Newcomb reported that the deadline for the next newsletter is April 10 and suggested running color pictures again this issue.  John Ford made a motion to leave the decision to run color pictures up to Kaye and Dick.  The motion was seconded by Sally Lathrop.  Motion passed.  Dick reminded everyone that this is the perfect time of year to submit for sale items.

Membership

Dick Newcomb commented that he has sent 2 bills to several members who have not sent their dues in for this year.  Dick is considering how long to continue to send our newsletter to these people.

Finger Lakes Boat Museum

Ed Wightman reported that conversations with Yates County Legislators indicate that they are favorable to FLBM buying the former Penn Yan Boat Company site, but that they still must make a final decision.  Ed also reported that the museum currently has an excellent show running at the Curtiss Museum featuring Skaneateles boats.  Ed also stated that 6 workshops are planned and that the museum is participating with Skaneateles on the 70th anniversary of the Lightening.  Mike O’Brien reported that the museum has received a donation of a Clipper Challenger.

Antique Outboard Motor Club

Bernie Burns regretfully announced that he must resign from the position of AOMCI Chairman.   Commodore Chuck Gladle thanked Bernie for his service in this position.

Sail and Non-Power

No Report.

2008 Boat Show

Chairman Dick Newcomb reported that ACBS is adopting a two-tiered award platform in each class, Preserved and Restored.  “Preserved” boats must be 60% original above the waterline.  Many chapters are also ceasing to use the term “Best” and replacing it with “Marquis Award” or individual marque award.  Joyce Gladle made a motion to allow Fred Marks, WCCB Head Judge, to make the decision regarding using the ACBS format of two-tiered awards for our show.  John Frey seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

Bernie Burns stated that he needs several people to help him with the Regatta.  Ed Wightman volunteered to Co-Chair the Regatta and work with Bernie to assemble a Regatta Committee.

Marti Issing passed a copy of her mock-up of the poster and commented that she is going to give the poster an antique look.  She is currently getting prices on printing the poster and will then select a printer and have 400 copies printed.  Marty will use Bill Wheeler’s boat on the poster if it is ready.  Commodore Chuck Gladle stressed the importance of promoting the 25th anniversary of the Regatta.  Joyce Gladle distributed an idea for the logo for the champagne bottles and will make that decision.

Bill Olmsted questioned if the Board was amenable to a menu of beef and salmon.  All agreed.  Dick Newcomb suggested raising the prices of our meals this year.  John Frey made a motion to increase the price of the Saturday evening dinner, including wine and beer, to $35 and the price of the Sunday chicken BBQ to $10.  Bill Olmsted seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

Sally Lathrop stated that she would like to bring back the non-power race for the boat show.  Ed Wightman will attempt to get the War Canoe for a race this year.

Ed Wightman reported that he is working with the same caterer that did our Friday Evening Welcome Party last year.  The price will again be $5.00.

Web Site

Dick Newcomb reported that Kaye continues to upgrade the web site.  Bernie Burns and Mike O’Brien commented that the site looks great.

Women’s Winter Workshop

No Report.

Spring Joint Chapters’ Meeting

John Ford reported that he is prepared to set the WCCB event schedule for 2009 and part of 2010.

Spring Cruise

Commodore Chuck Gladle is attempting to contact Jeff Merkel about running the cruise he prepared last year that was rained out.  Sally Lathrop volunteered to do the 2009 Spring Cruise on Conesus Lake.

2008 Fall Trip

Commodore Chuck Gladle reported that the Inn is fully booked and the bed and breakfasts are now filling up.  Chuck again stressed that WCCB needs new volunteers to help organize this event in the future.

NEW BUSINESS

Commodore Chuck Gladle announced that Bill Olmsted has successfully secured $1,000 sponsorship from Simmons Rockwell Motors in Bath, NY.  Bill also has a meeting scheduled with Five Star Bank to seek sponsorship.  Everyone was extremely pleased with Bill’s success.
