Commodore Chuck Gladle called the meeting to order at 7:10 P.M. Commodore Chuck Gladle noted that due to freezing rain and icy roads, many people were unable to attend and therefore there was not a quorum present. It was decided to continue the meeting on an unofficial basis.
OFFICERS’ REPORTS
Secretary’s Report To be considered next month.
Treasurer’s Report No Treasurer’s Report was presented but Dick Newcomb reported that he deposited $1,902 into the account from dues collected.
Vintage Wood Dick Newcomb reported that Vintage Wood went out last week after resolving several computer problems. 87 issues were e-mailed, 69 mailed. John Ford commented that he had heard complaints about people not receiving hard copies and suggested that we reconsider sending a hard copy to all members.
John Ford also stated that he senses a lack of communication between the WCCB Board of Directors and the general membership. Chuck Gladle confirmed that he has heard similar comments. John suggested that the meeting minutes be printed in Vintage Wood. It was decided that John would bring this subject up at the next meeting when a quorum is present. John Ford also commented that WCCB would benefit greatly from outside financial assistance. John Frey agreed and commented that there is no one to sell this idea. Commodore Chuck Gladle stated that this proposal is in process. Simmons Rockwell was mentioned as a possible sponsor. Bill Olmsted stated that he is friends with Don Simmons and will help with a proposal to them.
Finger Lakes Boat Museum No report.
Antique Outboard Motor Club Commodore Chuck Gladle reported that he had forwarded AOMCI information to AOMCI Chairman Bernie Burns. Chuck reported that AOMCI had a very nice booth at the Buffalo Boat Show and there was a great deal of interest in the display. John Ford and Dick Newcomb described WCCB’s participation in boat shows years ago and suggested that we try the concept again. Dick suggested that our best market is the Southern Tier.
Web Site Dick Newcomb reported that Kaye had revised the site yesterday and that there have been 376 hits. Kaye has added links to several sites including The Cove Inn, the headquarters for this year’s Fall Cruise.
Women’s Winter Workshop No report.
2008 Boat Show Dick Newcomb reported that Marti Issing is working on the poster and that it should be out by April. Dick commented that this year is the 25th Anniversary of the Race Regatta. He will call Jeff Magnesun and ask him to come to the show. Dick reported that he had figured out why our profits have been down for several years. The reason is that the cost of the program has gone from $600 for black and white to $1,100 for color, but our advertising charges have not increased. Dick will propose increasing the advertising charge by $5.00 at the next meeting. John Ford suggested that we investigate what other clubs charge and that perhaps a larger increase is called for. Dick reported that Finger Lakes Chapter farms their program out but makes nothing on it. Dick stated that we need help with advertising sales.
Dick also reported that the permits are underway; we need to choose a gift for 2008; the Ship’s Store budget needs to be established; and the dinner venue needs to be decided on. Bill Olmsted agreed to check the possibility of having a catered dinner at The Glenwood Club and John Frey will check availability at Snug Harbor.
2008 Fall Trip John Ford reported that The Cove Inn is almost sold out but that there are 4 bed and breakfasts nearby still available.
Fall Workshop Dick Newcomb commented that WCCB used to have a separate workshop of its own and that perhaps we should return to that format. Commodore Chuck Gladle reported the AOMCI members exhibited great interest in a hands-on workshop of woodworking. John Ford suggested the possibility of having 2 workshops with each of the three organizations inviting the others.
Spring Joint Chapters’ Meeting The only WCCB representatives registered so far are the Fords and the Gladles.
Membership Dick Newcomb reported that at this time we have a total of 156 members; 115 joint with ACBS, 33 local and 8 founder members. Dick will comment at the next meeting on the value of ACBS membership to WCCB.
NEW BUSINESS
Dick Newcomb reported that he has purchased 2 new fireproof safes for safe keeping of show programs, photos, minutes, videos, etc.
Commodore Chuck Gladle suggested the possibility of holding a charity event to create positive exposure in the area and for advertising purposes. Our donation to the Hammondsport Fire Department is a good example.
Chuck also commented that we need new people to volunteer to help set up the Fall Cruises.
Joyce Gladle reported that she has learned through another organization that tax exempt organizations netting under $25,000 annually are required to report to the IRS as of 2008. Joyce will send the pertinent information to Pam Gratzer and Bernie Burns.
John Ford stated that he thinks Kaye and Dick Newcomb are doing too much work for WCCB and that we need to secure some help for them. John Frey commented that we are afraid that the will “burn out”. Dick said that they enjoy it.
Next Meeting March 5, 2008, at Nona’s Tratatoria, Route 14, Geneva, New York.
Adjournment Bill Olmsted made a motion to adjourn the meeting 9:00 PM. Chuck Gladle seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Respectfully submitted,
