Antique Outboard Motor Club

Commodore Chuck Gladle reported that AOMCI will have a Swap Meet at Pugsley’s on January 12 and another at Laing’s Marine in Niagara Falls on February 9.  AOMCI will also have a large booth display at the Buffalo Boat Show at Summit Mall January 16 through 20.

2008 Boat Show

No report.

Web Site

Kaye Newcomb requested information from all Board members to be posted on the site.  Commodore Chuck Gladle asked Kaye to write an article for Vintage Wood and also to be posted on the site, asking that information for the site be sent to her.

Women’s Winter Workshop

A discussion led to some interest in this event.  Pam Gratzer and Joyce Gladle will look further into what might be done.

Spring Joint Chapters’ Meeting

Commodore Chuck Gladle reported that John Ford will again be the WCCB representative.

2008 Fall Trip

Doug Vittum reported that 2 weeks before Christmas, he and Barb and Bonnie and John Ford drove up to Canada to make the preliminary arrangements for the trip.  Our headquarters will be The Cove Country Inn in Westport, Ontario.  The Inn was built in 1875 and has been open to the public since 1930.  The Inn is located right in the village of Westport, has nice rooms (approximately $100-$140 per night), has a good launch site, good docking on the property, plenty of shopping available should we have a rainy day and has a nice porch and lawn for our Friday night party.  The Cove Country Inn will accommodate 30-35 people.  Doug and John blocked the rooms.  Also nearby are 4 Bed and Breakfasts for any overflow attendees we may have.  The Inn is approximately 35 minutes north of the Thousand Island Bridge.  The nearest large town is Portland, Ontario.  Reservations can be made as soon as the information is out.

A tentative schedule is as follows:  Thursday, trip to Perth, Ontario via Big Rideau Lake and the Tay Canal, with a lunch stop and shopping time;  Friday, trip down by Chaffey’s Lock with lunch at the 80 year old Opinicon Resort; Saturday, trip on Big Rideau Lake.  There are a couple of very interesting boat shops to visit in the area.

Fall Workshop

Commodore Chuck Gladle asked all Board members to give some thought as to how we can make this event bigger and better attended by WCCB members.   Discussion ensued with Bernie Burns suggesting that we try to appeal to all 3 Clubs and commenting that when WCCB held the event by itself, there were hands-on demonstrations and donations were made by sponsors.  Pam Gratzer suggested that we might be trying to meet too many needs.  Pam also commented that 3M used to donate many items.  Bill Smith suggested that we advertise the items to be auctioned ahead of the event.  Ed Wightman agreed to discuss this with FLBM and get their suggestions.  Joyce Gladle commented that after the $200 fee to the Cayuga State Park and the possible reserve on the FLBM boat, the profit was negligible.  Bernie Burns agreed to talk with Mike O’Brien and get a final decision on the FLBM reserve so that the final accounting can take place.

NEW BUSINESS

Commodore Chuck Gladle reported that Captain Gray Hoffman has passed away.  Kaye Newcomb reported that she had sent a card to Gray’s family from WCCB.  Chuck represented WCCB at Gray’s calling hours.  He picked up a donation card for Ontario-Yates County Hospice and suggested that we donate $50 in Gray’s name.  The motion to donate $50 to Ontario-Yates County Hospice in the name of Captain Gray Hoffman was made by Bill Smith and seconded by John Frey.  The motion was carried.

Bernie Burns made the comment that Rosemary and Terry Holland did a great job with the food at the Fall Workshop.  Betsy Wells commented that Rosemary had prepared several of the salads herself.  Rosemary and Terry agreed to be the WCCB contacts for next year’s Workshop and also to do the lunch.  Bill Smith agreed to be the FLBM liaison.

Joyce Gladle questioned exactly who should receive copies of the Board Meeting minutes.  Discussion ensued—John Frey questioned the possibility of sending them to all members;  Chuck Gladle suggested putting them in Vintage Wood and on the web site;  Bernie Burns suggested putting them on the web site only.  A decision was made to post them on the web site and send them to the Board members via e-mail.

Next Meeting

Adjournment

Bill Olmsted made a motion to adjourn the meeting 8:50 PM.  Bill Wheeler seconded the motion.  Motion carried.
