WINE COUNTRY CLASSIC BOATS BOARD OF DIRECTORS MONTHLY MEETING Thursday, June 12, 2008 Canandaigua Yacht Club, Canandaigua, New York
The WCCB Spring Social preceded the monthly Board of Directors Meeting. The majority of members who attended the Social stayed for the meeting and dinner.
In Attendance Chuck Gladle, Bill Wheeler, Bill Olmsted, Pam Gratzer, Mike Yonker, , Kevin Issing, Kaye Newcomb, Dick Newcomb, Terry Holland, Jim Commisso, Sally Lathrop, Fred Marks, Ed Wightman, Brent Rauber and Joyce Gladle.
Guests in attendance were Rosemary Holland, Marti Issing, Wendy Wheeler, Rose Marks, Nancy Wightman, Tom and Patty Steele, Doug Vittum, Red and Dot Bayer, Billy Clark, Art and Joann Parsons, Doug Nichols, Dave Blum, John and Hillerie Dodge and Carol and Peter Robbins.
Unable to Attend Bernie Burns, Bill Smith, John Ford, John Frey, Bill Smith, Dana Gersbach, and Mike O’Brien.
Commodore Chuck Gladle called the meeting to order at 7:15 P.M.
Commodore Chuck Gladle opened the meeting with the introduction of and welcome to the members and guests in attendance. Chuck then thanked J. R. Miller of Ryan’s Wine and Liquor store in Canandaigua and John Stevens, local Representative of Southern Wine and Spirits for providing the wines and expertise for the wine tasting during our Social. Chuck also thanked Wendy and Bill Wheeler for arranging for us to meet at the Yacht Club.
Chuck then made the announcement that Brent Rauber has had a 100 year old, 16’ Carleton canoe, varnished inside with ripped white canvas outside and no serial number, stolen from his front yard. Chuck asked all to be on the lookout for someone trying to sell this canoe.
OFFICERS’ REPORTS
Secretary’s Report A motion to accept the May minutes was made by Fred Marks and seconded by Bill Olmsted. Motion carried. Treasurer’s Report Treasurer Pam Gratzer distributed a Treasurer’s Report showing a balance of $6,467.40 as of May 31, 2008. Pam added the comment that this amount is $1,613.64 more than the amount in the treasury at this time last year. A motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report was made by Doug Vittum and seconded by Kevin Issing. Motion carried.
Vintage Wood Dick Newcomb reported that the deadline for the next newsletter is upon us and again encouraged us to submit “for sale” items. Dick also commented that Jeff Magneson is preparing an article for this issue based on his experiences at our show.
Membership Dick Newcomb reported that we currently have 163 members and that 15 will be dropped this month for non-payment.
WCCB Web Site Kaye Newcomb reported that as of today we have had 1,090 hits on the site. Kaye has placed the show registration information and forms on the web site. Commodore Chuck Gladle mentioned that he has had some very positive feedback on our site and thanked Kaye and Dick for their efforts.
Finger Lakes Boat Museum Ed Wightman reported that the restoration of the Lightening #167 continues and the boat should be ready for the Skaneateles Show commemorating the 70th anniversary of this marque. Ed added that the Lightening will hopefully be at our WCCB Show. Ed also reported that the Yates County Legislature invited FLBM to make a presentation about the advantages of their permanent museum being located at the previous Penn Yan Boat Works site in Penn Yan. This effort continues in a positive manner.
Antique Outboard Motor Club Joyce Gladle reported that the Show and Swap Meet in Chaumont Bay on June 7 was very successful drawing local participants as well as several from Canada. The combined meet with FiberGlassics is scheduled for June 14 at the Silver Lake State Park.
Sail and Non-Power Sally Lathrop confirmed that we will have the non-power race at our show at approximately 10 AM on Sunday, July 20. Ed Wightman will make the arrangements to get the war canoe from Keuka College.
Women’s Winter Workshop Pam Gratzer suggested that we table this group until next year.
2008 Boat Show Show Co-Chair Dick Newcomb reported that everything is in good shape. We have 25 registrants to date which is ahead of last year. Dick questioned how the Ship’s Store is coming along and Pam Gratzer and Joyce Gladle answered in the affirmative. Dick reported that we still need a Fly-By start boat. Doug Vittum will try to be available to do this task. Dick announced that our long-time program printer, Tillman Press, is now unable to do the program. However, he has contacted the Yates County ARC (which also prints our newsletter) and they are able to print the program at a savings of $400.
Dick commented that he needs the advertisements and trophy sponsorships as soon as possible as ARC has an early printing deadline. Dick also needs 5 boat stories for the program. Dick confirmed that Dana Gersbach, Bill Wheeler and Tom Steele will handle the land display and launch; Kevin Issing will get the radios and see that they are in working order; the Friday Keuka Lake Cruise is set and the Sunday Chicken BBQ is set. Dick asked that anyone with a question or comment about the show get in touch with him.
Spring Cruise Chairperson Sally Lathrop reported that all preparations have been made, that we will launch at 9:30 AM and that the Cruise will go north from the State Launch, proceed around the lake and end at her house for a picnic lunch. Sally asked that everyone bring a dish to pass.
2008 Fall Trip Doug Vittum reported that the trip is sold out. He stated that there is a free launch next to the Cove Inn, Westport, Ontario. Doug and John Ford will help launch the boats. Doug went on to say that on Friday we will cruise to Perth, Ontario, a beautiful, old town with good docking. Friday evening will be our traditional party. Saturday we will cruise south and visit a resort that has been owned by the same family for 75 years and visit some boat houses and local shops. Doug also said that we may stop at Bob Mahar’s daughter’s and son-in-law’s house on the way home. Doug will be sending final information to all registrants.
Fall Workshop Commodore Chuck Gladle reported that we are on schedule for the workshop at John Ford’s shop on November 1.
OLD BUSINESS
Spring Joint Chapters Meeting Commodore Chuck Gladle reported on-going discussion regarding the cancellation of this spring’s meeting. Chuck announced that WCCB has been asked to host the event in 2009.
NEW BUSINESS
Next Meeting July 2, 2008 at Sarrisan’s Restaurant in Penn Yan, New York
Adjournment Ed Wightman made a motion to adjourn the meeting 8:25 PM. Sally Lathrop seconded the motion. Motion carried.

LONG TERM RESOLUTIONS
Fall Trip – Art Parsons made a motion to make the Fall Trip a club function, Mike Yonker seconded, unanimously approved. (October 7, 1998)
WCCB Logo – Bob Mahar made a motion that when major sponsorship is WCCB, that WCCB be primary highlighted club with ACBS mentioned, Bill Smith seconded, unanimously approved. (May 5, 1999)
Membership Mailings – Membership mailings are to go out in envelopes, lst class, Dick Newcomb moved, Bill Smith seconded, unanimously approved. (November 3, 1999)
Finger Lakes Boat Museum – Motion made by Duncan Remington to offer reciprocal membership to Finger Lakes Boat Museum. Seconded and passed. WCCB will also be member of FLBM under this agreement. (February 9, 2000)
Boat Show Regatta – Dan Sutherland made a motion that anyone under 18 must meet all NYS boating safety requirements, the parent and child must sign the race waiver and the parent must be on the race course with the driver. (July 11, 2001)
Show Entry Fee For Outboard Motors –Dick Newcomb made a motion that the entry fee for outboard motors at our show should be $10.00 for all motors entered by a single registrant. (February 1, 2006)
Late Year Memberships A motion was made by Bill Wheeler that dues paid at our annual show or later, cover the balance of the current year and the entire next year. Kaye Newcomb seconded the motion. Carried. (March 7, 2007)
Fall Trip Insurance Fred Marks confirmed that ACBS insurance covers our members on our Fall Trips. (March 7, 2007)
