Women’s Winter Workshop

Commodore Chuck Gladle proposed an article in Vintage Wood asking for suggestions of what would be of interest for the women to accomplish.  Pam Gratzer suggested having a Ship’s Store planning meeting.

2008 Boat Show

Dick Newcomb reported that Marti Issing had intended to have a mock-up poster available tonight but was unable to do so.  Matri had requested to use Bill Wheeler’s Hutchinson as a model for the picture but the boat is not quite ready.  John Ford reiterated that we need the posters by April and suggested that the 2009 poster mock-up be presented at the November 2008 meeting.

Dick brought up the fact that this is the 25th anniversary of the Regatta and asked us to consider recruiting some high-profile race boats such as Jeff Magnesun’s.  John Ford confirmed that the Gold Cup race boats are very popular and offered to make his reservation at the Hammondsport Motel available to Jeff in return for complimentary placement of his centerfold ad in our program.  Fred Marks commented that we need to push to get many race boats to attend.  John Frey suggested that we feature the race boats but it was decided that since we have already scheduled the 1940s boats, that the race boats share the top billing with them.  Kaye Newcomb suggested a committee to brainstorm this idea.  Commodore Chuck Gladle suggested putting the invitation on the website and in the next issue of Vintage Wood as well as a personal search.  John Ford agreed to put together a list of individuals to target and then he and Fred Marks will make the contacts.  Chuck also said that he would bring this up at the Joint Chapters Meeting.

Co-Boat Show Chair Dick Newcomb commented that he has been noticing that income from our program ads has been down for the last couple of years.  Upon further thought, he realized that our advertising fees have not been raised in many years.  Dick Newcomb made a motion to raise the advertising rates by $10 each.  The motion was seconded by John Frey.  Motion carried.

Dick then commented that we need help this year with the program advertising sales.  In the past it has been done by a handful of people and they need a break.  At the April meeting Dick will distribute the letters and information needed to solicit ads.

Dick suggested doing the Friday Cruise aboard the Viking Spirit again this year.  Fred Marks emphasized the need for a better PA system.  Dick commented that John Viverberg is looking for one.  Dick reported that the Curtiss Museum is all set for the Friday evening Welcome Party.  John Frey reported that upon checking with Snug Harbor, the best deal they could offer is $41 per person.  John said that Bill Olmsted will organize the Saturday evening dinner at the Glenwood Club again providing he gets 4-6 volunteers to work with him.

Joyce Gladle made a motion to have personalized bottles of champagne commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Regatta as our gift again this year.  Kaye Newcomb seconded the motion. Motion carried.  The necessary boat show permits are in place.  Bill Wheeler made a motion to authorize $2,500 to be used for the Ship’s Store.  Mike Yonker seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

2008 Fall Trip

John Ford reported that The Cove Inn is completely booked and the bed and breakfasts are now booking.  He urged people to book their room now if they are interested as people from other Chapters will also be attending.

Fall Workshop

Commodore Chuck Gladle reported that he has heard from several WCCB members that they would prefer to have their own workshop.  John Ford agreed to host this year’s workshop providing he gets help with the programs and projects.  John also suggested that Morley Smith do a program on lines and lofting.

Spring Joint Chapters’ Meeting

John Ford reported that he needs a complete list of all new events planned.

Membership

Dick reported that we currently have 159 members; 117 of them through ACBS, 34 local members, and 8 founding members.

Spring Cruise

Joyce Gladle mentioned that Chuck had proposed asking Jeff Merkel to host the Spring Cruise he had organized last year which had to be cancelled.  Board members were in agreement.  Chuck will contact Jeff.

NEW BUSINESS

John Ford raised the question as to whether or not WCCB should actively participate in the search for a permanent location for the Finger Lakes Boat Museum.  After discussion, Board members agreed that we should not.  Joyce Gladle made a motion to discontinue actively seeking a permanent location for Finger Lakes Boat Museum.  Motion was seconded by Dana Gersbach and Dick Newcomb.  Motion carried.

Kaye and Dick Newcomb announced that long-time member Art Parsons was recently married to Joann.  Kaye passed a card of congratulations for all to sign.

Commodore Chuck Gladle suggested the formation of a WCCB Advertising and Promotion Committee and possibly one for Public Relations.
