Commodore Chuck Gladle opened the meeting by congratulating and thanking Bill Olmsted for arranging for our first Boat Show sponsorship from Simmons Rockwell Motors in Bath, NY.  Bill commented that he has a 2nd effort under way at the moment.

OFFICERS’ REPORTS

Secretary’s Report

Corrections: Kevin Issing mentioned that he was listed as in attendance and not in attendance.  Dick Newcomb corrected the percentage that he reported that is required for a boat to be considered “preserved” from 65% to 60%.  Both corrections were made to the permanent electronic and hard copy of the minutes.  A motion to accept the April minutes was made by Bill Wheeler and seconded by Kevin Issing.  Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report

Pam Gratzer circulated a Transaction Report for April 2008 showing a balance of $6,886.55 (copy attached).  A motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report was made by Bill Wheeler and seconded by Bill Olmsted.  Motion carried.

Vintage Wood

Dick Newcomb reported that the deadline for the next newsletter is June 10.  He encouraged our members to take advantage of the “For Sale” area.  Kaye requested articles on individual’s boats and Chuck commented that people always like to read about other people’s boats.  Dick commented that he had upgraded the paper and ink for the last issue and it was very well received.  Sally Lathrop suggested that we find or write some articles on non-power boats.

Membership

Dick Newcomb reported that we currently have 160 members of which 144 have paid.  He will make his last contact for payment from those non-renewals.  102 of those members also are ACBS members.  Dick suggested that when we get a new member, we notify a current with the same kind of boat so that they can make contact and welcome the new member.

WCCB Web Site

Kaye Newcomb reported that as of today we have had 851 hits on the site.  The 2008 Boat Show information is also on the site.  Kaye also will add for sale items if she receives them.  Commodore Chuck Gladle suggested putting Simmons Rockwell Motors’ information on the web site in return for their sponsorship.  He also suggested signage and dealer cars to be present at our 2008 Show.  Bill Wheeler suggested that a sponsor of $1,000 or more should receive a free advertisement in our show program.

Finger Lakes Boat Museum

Bill Smith reported that the FLBM Show will be August 7 – 9 at Sarrasin’s.  He added that officers continue to make progress on a permanent site.  Bill commented that the Skaneateles Lightening #167, celebrating its 70th anniversary, will be at the show in Skaneateles over the 4th of July Weekend.

Antique Outboard Motor Club

Commodore Chuck Gladle announced that Joyce Gladle will be the AOMCI Chairperson.  Joyce then reported an upcoming Swap Meet on June 7 in Chaumont Bay on Lake Ontario and a Boat Show and Swap Meet in conjunction with the FiberClassics Boat Club on Silver Lake on June 14 and 15.

Sail and Non-Power

No Report.

Women’s Winter Workshop

Pam Gratzer suggested that those interested in helping get together to check the inventory taken at the end of last year’s show and do the ordering for this year.  Pam reported that ACBS has better items this year and has logo items as well.  Pam requested that anyone with ideas contact her directly.

Spring Cruise

Chairperson Sally Lathrop reported that she has chosen June 21 for the Cruise.  We will launch at the NY State Launch north of her house, cruise around Conesus Lake and stop at her house for lunch.  She will provide final details for publication in Vintage Wood and via e-mail.

2008 Boat Show

Show Co-Chair Dick Newcomb reported that all is running on schedule.  Mike Yonker investigated the cost of possibly awarding a plaque as well as a bottle of wine.  Penfield Trophy has a 5” x 9”generic award (which can be used for future shows if left over), including engraving, for $17 each.  The cost including a bottle of wine would be approximately $27 each award.  Jim Commisso suggested that we wait until the last minute to buy the award wine in the event that we get enough through donations.  Dick reminded us that we need to seek wine donations.  Sally Lathrop has arranged for the dash plaques.

Commodore Chuck Gladle suggested playing Big Band music of the era.  John Vyverberg has purchased WCCB sound equipment.  Bill Olmsted and Pam Gratzer have period CDs.  Kaye asked that they bring them to the next meeting so she can copy them.  Dick reported that 206 registration forms have been mailed.  John Frey commented that the show was not listed in Rudder.  Dick will have it in the next issue.  Chuck Gladle questioned if we should make a special invitation to surrounding chapters.  Bill Wheeler commented that we decided last year to include fiberglass boats but that the registration still said they were not allowed.  Commodore Chuck Gladle stated that next year featuring boats of the 1950s will be a great opportunity to push for fiberglass entries.

Dick stressed that we need someone with a big boat to organize the Fly By and direct traffic on the lake.  Dick said that perhaps Artie Parsons would do it in Seven Isles and that Doug Vittum would most likely help him.  Dick distributed the Sponsorship Forms and encouraged everyone to seek advertisements and award sponsors.  Marti Issing displayed and distributed her beautiful show poster.  Dick announced that we have our first 2008 show entry, Howard Fairchild.

Bill Olmsted questioned the Board regarding the proposed menu of beef, salmon, salad or coleslaw, roasted potatoes and the same desserts as last year.  The proposal met with  resounding approval.  Bill needs volunteers for Friday and Saturday.  Regarding the attempt to encourage race boat entries, Dick said that Jeff Magnesun will be unable to attend the show but will solicit other boats on our behalf.  Jeff suggested featuring Gold Cup Racers of which there are 5, 1 in Buffalo.  Sally Lathrop said she thought there was one in Fair Haven.

2008 Fall Trip

Doug Vittum sent a written report which was read by Chuck Gladle:  As of today there are 48 people signed up for the trip.  Only 4 rooms remain available at 3 of the B&Bs.  Doug will send information request via e-mail.  The plans are going smoothly.  At this point, passports will not be required.  Doug will send updated information regarding this issue.

Fall Workshop

Plans for the November 1 Fall Workshop at John Ford’s shop are on track.  Suggestions are needed for demonstrations.

OLD BUSINESS

Marti Issing suggested that the minutes be sent to all members via e-mail.  Kaye commented that they are published on the web site and she will send an e-mail notifying all members of that.  Dick Newcomb commented that we need to know the meeting locations for the entire year.  Joyce Gladle agreed to set the remaining meetings for 2008.

Commodore Chuck Gladle reported that the Joint Chapters Meeting had been canceled 3 days before the registration deadline.  Chuck had discussed the issue with Dick Sherwood and suggested a sliding scale of prices based on time of registration as well as an earlier deadline.

NEW BUSINESS

Commodore Chuck Gladle again requested the Board to consider a charity event to promote our organization.  Sally Lathrop suggested giving boat rides to children from Camp Good Days and Happy Times, but Dick Newcomb said that ACBS previously denied that idea.  John Frey suggested a golf tournament.

Chuck also posed the possibility of WCCB having a booth at the Rochester and/or Syracuse Boat Show.  Sally commented that she had joined WCCB as a result of seeing their booth at the Rochester Boat Show in 1988.  Jim Commisso reported that the management changed and the price went way up.  Bill Smith cautioned that we would have to have volunteers to staff the booth.

Chuck Gladle asked if anyone would like to investigate putting on a WCCB Youth Day.  Marti Issing volunteered to explore this idea.

Next Meeting

June 12 following our Spring Social, at the Canandaigua Yacht Club, 3524 East Lake Road, Canandaigua, New York.

Adjournment

Jim Commisso made a motion to adjourn the meeting 9:00 PM.  Joyce Gladle seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,

Joyce A. Gladle
